CW-U SERIES UNITIZED CURTAINWALL OUTLINE SPECIFICATIONS

The materials used in the fabrication and installation of this product shall generally be in accordance with the project specification. The following minimum standards apply to this particular framing system.

MATERIALS

  • Extrusions shall be 6063-T5, 6063-T6, 6063-T54 or 6061-T6, as determined by the structural engineer certifying the design.
  • Formed aluminum shapes shall be from sheet, alloy and temper suitable for inclusions within the project.
  • All fabrication fasteners such as screws or nuts and bolts shall be non-corrosive - stainless steel or, if applicable, fully plated.
  • Weathering gaskets shall be suitable for the application. Gaskets shall be extruded EPDM or silicone.
  • Interior and exterior gaskets shall have double lip weather seals. Interior gasket to have joinery sealant applied if vulcanized corners are not used. Thermal-Break material to have horizontal and vertical members sealed at intersecting joints.

FINISHES

  • Clear Anodized
To be in accordance with the Aluminum Association specification AA-M12C22A31 class II (.0004") or AA-M12C22A41 class I (.0007")
  • Color Anodized
To be in accordance with the Aluminum Association specification AA-M12C22A42/44 class I (.0007") unless noted otherwise. These colors can be light bronze, medium bronze, dark bronze or black.
  • Paint-Thermosetting type conforming to:
Acrylic or similar finish in accordance with AAMA 603.8
Fluoropolymer finish in accordance with AAMA 605.2. Color of either finish to be as per project specification.

PERFORMANCE

  • Structural design and performance shall be based on CSA Standard CAN3-S157 "Strength Design in Aluminum" and as determined by the certifying Professional Engineer regarding the strength, design and performance of the framing system. A maximum deflection of L/175 shall be the minimum standard for the work.
  • Air infiltration shall not exceed 0.06 CFM/ft2 when tested in accordance with ASTM E283 at a pressure differential of 6.24 P.S.F. There shall be no water infiltration when tested in accordance with ASTM331 with a pressure differential of 15.0 P.S.F.

FABRICATION

  • All extrusions shall be accurately cut and fit together with either screw spline joinery or, if necessary, shear blocks.
  • After cutting and before joinery, all joints shall be wiped clean with recommended cleaning solvents.
  • Joints shall be tightly fitted and sealed with silicone, or other suitable material to ensure an airtight and watertight fit.
  • All necessary corner blocks and sealing of same to be factory installed to bring about individual compartmenting, so that a rain screen principle of construction is achieved.
  • Glass to be installed in the factory in accordance with outline glazing principles of F.G.M.A. Install shipping blocks to suit.
  • Back pans to be a minimum of 20 GA galvanized steel with silicone air seals.
  • Insulation thickness and type to be as per the project requirements.
  • Insulation impaling pins to be a minimum of 1 per square foot of insulation material.

INSTALLATION

  • All framing installation and sealing to be done in accordance with shop drawings bearing the seal of a registered professional engineer. Unless noted otherwise, this engineer must also sign off letters of compliance.

PROTECTION AND CLEANING

  • During installation, all adjacent work shall be protected from damage. After installation, work shall be left in "wiped clean condition". Additional protection against damage from any cause and final cleaning to be done by others.
